MADAGASCAR VILLAGE PROJECT
CONDITIONS IN MADAGASCAR
Madagascar is rated 193rd out of the 210 poorest nations on the planet. In 2001, it was estimated that over
70% of the population was living under the standard established by the International Poverty Measure of $ 1 per
day. As of 1996, less than half of Madagascar men and a third of females were expected to achieve a 5th grade
education.
CONDITIONS AT THE VILLAGE
Living conditions in small villages geographically removed from the capital,
Antananarivo are even worse! God has directed us (FSCO) to help a village
near Tamatave, where every child, adult and elderly person is involved in breaking large rocks
into gravel, for road construction. The only water available for drinking, cooking and bathing, is provided by the
small river that runs nearby. Since 70% of all endemic illnesses in Madagascar are waterborne, our first priority
will be to drill a water well for the village.
